"As a military veteran of 21 years and working as manager/operations manager over 17 years as a civilian, I learned to provide grace and understanding towards my employees. But most of all, establishing communication norms and being transparent has been the key to not only having less turnaround in an office (meaning not constantly firing employees), but to uphold very clear and understandable communication with my employees. If an employee is dismissed, it is due to failure to adhere to the policies in the workplace after being forewarned. However, it is sad to think while Rob Geraghty has excellent employees working for him, he has failed in communicating clear expectations after a Hurricane. As many had to face challengers after Hurricane Milton plowed across Florida, whipping up tornado warning and knocking out power to more than 3 million customers, as well as cell phone service, Rob Geraghty graciously wanted to contact his clients to make sure they were okay and if to find out if they needed to file any claims. Admirable. But what is not admirable is advising his employees on Tuesday that since the hurricane was to hit on Wednesday evening, the office will most likely be closed on Thursday – as many other employers did – and then calling on that day, ASKING “who is all available to come in and make calls” when the original plan was to come in on Friday to make those calls. When asking who is available – you must prepare to hear some are and some are not available. The key word I am emphasizing is they were ASKING the employees – meaning you are giving your employees an option – not mandating. Perhaps being aware that some employees had issues after the hurricane, and perhaps being considerate, he probably did not want to make it a MANDATORY request. But when some employees expressed they would be unable to come into the office, Rob became “so angry” – words he expressed – that the next day he decided to dismiss all those who failed to answer the option request to come into the office. The unspoken are the expectations that we have of people but don’t clearly express it. It is the tendency to silently impose on people but don’t tell them. It is so important to always make clear what those unspoken expectations are, and you will be amazed how differently they are perceived by everyone who works for you. Your only as good as your employees. The success of a business is directly tied to the quality of its people. . Yes, many may come here and respond to this review/comment and praise Rob Geraghty for being a great leader, supportive and exceptional in many aspects. Perhaps he very well is. But Rob Geraghty failed this time. He failed to clearly communicate that he was requiring employees to come into the office and then turned around chose to dismiss employees – not based on performance issues – for not “volunteering to turn up” when they were unable for their own reason after Hurricane Milton. Employees with exceptional and outstanding reviews on their handling customer service were dismissed when they missed the mark in his eyes, apparently broke one of his unspoken rules, and fell short of his grace and expectation. No commendable at all. Please do better next time I appreciate your response but I stand by my words. You dismissed more than one and you did not communicate effectively despite alleging what you may have stated in the past. Clearly there was an issue in the manner the request was made while having certain expectations, yet lacking clear communication about the urgency. You cannot tell me that you would mandate for your employees to come in no matter what their personal circumstances after a hurricane. That is unreasonable. You asked if they were available, and some where not. You did not appreciate it, became angry, and dismissed them. It is that clear and that simple. I understand wanting to be there for your customers but you failed your employees. I am not a phone person but would meet in person to discuss respectfully"

We are proud that we are always at the office after a hurricane “as soon as it is safe to do so”. We promote this fact constantly. The Team are encouraged to have that conversation during every phone call with a new insured. We have the conversation during our interview process that we are open immediately after a hurricane for our insureds. Hurricane Ian – Same Day return Hurricane Debby – Same Day return Hurricane Helene – Same Day return Hurricane Milton – Same Day return Always as soon as it is safe. Given your extensive experience in the military, management, and operations, I am sure you can understand how crucial it is for our team to be able to deliver on the promises we provide daily to insureds.
